Steps Towards Awakening

Please note my course offer is currently under construction

Kundalini Tantra Yoga (spiritual practice for inner awareness).

This is the yoga of Ancient India. It is not fitness orientated, but meditative. It is about feeling our presence and awareness in the moment. The key is the quality of our ‘ease’ in the body, mind and emotions. It is the practice of union; individual consciousness with cosmic consciousness (a form of White Tantra).

This is a 7 week course, scheduled to run on a Friday evening from 6pm to 7pm, to bring you to a place of ease after the stresses of the week, freeing you up for the night and weekend to come. Each session will focus on a different chakra, as we work up from the root to the crown.

Goddess Pose as part of Kundalini Tantra Yoga sequence.

Guided Meditation

Meditation is a way to shift our consciousness from the lower mind to the higher mind (from the reptilian brain to the wisdom brain). Meditation can be difficult for many people, and so guided meditation gently brings people to a place, through mantra and visualisation, where concentration becomes less laboured and more effortless. Meditation is a state, not an action, and so these sessions are intended to bring you to a state that can be maintained throughout the day. Meditations are therefore best done in the morning.

The sessions therefore have been scheduled to run on a Saturday morning from 8am to 8.45am.

Tantra Yoga; theory and practice.

These sessions bring together Jnana Yoga and Kriya Yoga, as a form of Bhakti Yoga practice – devotion to our inner divine. This course is based on my upcoming book Tantra Yoga: the dance of Shiva.

This is a 10 week course, scheduled to run on a Saturday morning from 10am to 11.30am, to stimulate the mind and body, before you head out for the day. The sessions will alternate between discussion on a particular topic from my book and practices that relate to that topic;

·       Welcome and check-in (5 min)

·       Discussion (20 min)

·       Practice (20 min)

·       Discussion (20 min)

·       Practice (20 min)

·       Closing and check-out (5 min)

Pran Kriya (dynamic purification practices).

Prior to Pranayama we need to practice Prana Kriya’s, dynamic purification practices to create space, calm the mind, awaken the mind, bring balance, and purify our subtle energy levels. These are classical yogic healing techniques that have laid the foundations for modern approaches to trauma release bodywork. The emphasis is on strong exhalations.

These sessions, scheduled to run on a Sunday morning from 9am to 10am, are ideal prior to the Pranayama sessions.

Breath of purification (Chandra Bedi and Surya Bedi).

Pranayama (gentle breathwork).

Pranayama is a group of methods (different breathing techniques) to absorb and circulate prana into the physical and subtle body. The sessions will work through different breathing sequences, identifying the right way to breath to extend your life.

These sessions, scheduled to run on a Sunday morning from 10.15am to 11.15am, are ideal after the Pran Kriya sessions.

Gentle breathwork is like the gentle flow (the in and out) of the waves of the sea.

Asanas (gentle sequences).

Asana is describes, by Patanjali in the Yoga Sutras, chapter 2, Sutra 46, as (sthira) steady and (sukham) comfortable, Yoga raises our perceptions and consciousness, so we are more receptive to inner messages and sensations in the system. Asanas, then, have more impact the longer we hold them, as our brain has more time to evaluate what to do with the messages, offering strong healing potential, especially when added to breathing which stabilises the body.

These sessions, scheduled to run on a Sunday afternoon from 2pm to 3pm, will incorporate gentle sequences around hip opening, or back strength, flexibility and pain relief, or joint flexibility and pain relief.

Asanas; any time, any where. Tricasana

Yoga Nidra (pratyahara practice: rotation of consciousness).

The purpose of the rotation of consciousness is transformation through the restructuring of our habits. Nidra is sleep, Yoga Nidra is sleep with awareness. This is a beautiful practice just before going to bed, and especially suited to a Sunday evening to set a resolve for the week ahead.

The sessions therefore have been scheduled to run on a Sunday evening from 9pm to 10pm.
