I AM GITA

The Bhagavad Gita recognises the two key aspects of doubt and faith. This aligns well to neo-tantra stance that everything is an experiment. When we divorce dogma and a fixedness from our spiritual practices, and introduce the element of questioning and experimenting, spirituality starts to speak to me more fully. This is when we have the potential to perform akarma, rather than karma.

Tantra Yoga and the Wisdom Goddesses

The essence of tantra yoga is about letting go, through connecting to our feminine energy. Tantra (and Hinduism and Ancient India Mysticism in general) uses an array of Deities as metaphors. Shaktism in particular emphasises the divine Goddesses, worshiping the feminine, to represent Divine Consciousness.

Kundalini Tantra Yoga

Kundalini Yoga is a science and a philosophy “to unite the finite with infinity”, ie, us with universal consciousness, hence eliminating any inner sense of duality, where we are all sacred, the centre for Brahman, one. Swami Satyananda Saraswati, in Kundalini Tantra, says kundalini “is the greatest discovery of tantra and yoga … (it) represents the coming consciousness of mankind.”

The Art of Creation

There is nothing new in the notion I AM, from the Upanishads to later day Guru’s such as Ramana Maharshi and Nisargadatta Maharaj, to western advocates such as Adyashanti and Rupert Spira. But for us men-who-love-men it is heartening to read related texts written by one of our brothers.

Jung and Kundalini Yoga

Carl Gustav Jung in his lectures on The Psychology of Kundalini Yoga, back in 1932, stated that Yoga is an ancient spiritual discipline “a practical means of attaining salvation, oneness and the liberation of purusha”, that is, a systematised ascetic technique; a method of meditation.

Scottish Dualism

Huge MacDiarmid, possibly the greatest Scottish poet of the 20th century, made a great point when he noted the ‘Caledonian antisyzygy’. By this he meant the Scottish taste for dualism, opposites and extremes in dispute. His famous words “I'll ha'e nae hauf-way hoose, but aye be whaur extremes meet” from his poem A Drunk Man Looks At The Thistle, seems to sum this up.
